Three-tiered Black Walnut Stand

Considered a premium domestic hardwood, black walnut is a dream to work with. It’s probably apparent that it’s my favorite because of how often I build items from its slabs. The rich color and unique grain, highlighted by a natural oil finish, is unrivaled in my eyes.

When an order came in for a three-tiered kitchen stand, the client didn’t have a slab preference. (YIPPEE!)  Since I’d been seasoning various-sized black walnut logs that a buddy had cut for me from a farm he’d been working on last year, I had three different diameters of slabs to choose from for the piece. Daisy (my trusty Stihl chainsaw) and I got to work.

The grain patterns are really unusual on each slab, making for an interesting final product:

More similar to the one pictured will be available at the summer VT shows. And as always, custom orders are happily filled!
