No joke. I’m probably going to cry when I run out of lumber from this beautiful old tree.
This custom order required me to come up with something rustic yet contemporary, per the client’s taste. She wanted me to use the irregular pieces of the spalted maple, and these three slabs had a soft section which I took out and filled with gray river rocks from the Battenkill. (I will look for any excuse to play on the banks of the Battenkill, even if there’s snow on the ground…) Bar top epoxy (equivalent to 60 coats of poly -absolutely amazing stuff) not only sealed the rocks in the stools but brought out the spalting. A dark brown stool base ensured that the slabs were the focal point.
While these have sold, I’m happy to inset rocks, moss, leaves, skittles, ???? in your custom order. You name it, I’ll try it. Seriously. Bring it on.
